Artist Talk: Po Po

3 Jul 2015

Date: Sunday, 2 August 2015

Time: 3-4pm

Acclaimed Burmese artist Po Po (b. 1957) has inspired generations of artists in Myanmar today. A visionary artist who brought something truly new in concept and execution to an isolated country’s latent art scene in the 1980s, his practice has gone from painting to assemblage, from monotype to installation, and from design to architecture.

In this artist talk, held in conjunction with his solo exhibition Out of Myth, Onto_Logical, Po Po will discuss his early encounters with philosophy, the relationship of the work to his past and present, and his placement as an artist from Myanmar in these times of transition. Moderated by exhibition curator Nathalie Johnston, this discussion will reflect the nature of the exhibition – its relationship to the past and future as well as relevance today.

On view from 2 August to 13 September 2015, Out of Myth, Onto_Logical presents an archive of work dating back to 1982, not only to bring focus to a period of Myanmar’s art history rarely explored, but also to investigate Po Po’s unique pieces in context.

This talk is open to the public and free of charge. To RSVP, please email irene@yavuzgallery.com.
