Khvay Samnang was born in Svay Rieng, Cambodia in 1982, and currently lives and works in Phnom Penh. His practice encompasses photography, video, performance and installation in a sharply playful investigation of transformation of social, political and cultural circumstances in the contemporary world, especially in Cambodia and its surrounding regions.
Khvay Samnang has exhibited his works in solo and group shows across Asia, Europe, Australia and USA, including NTU Centre for Contemporary Art in Singapore (2014); Tokyo Wonder Site (2010, 2011) and Akademie der Kunste in Berlin, Germany (2015); Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume in Paris, France (2015). He has participated in Documenta 14, the 8th Asia Pacific Triennial, 4th Singapore Biennale and the 4th Asian Art Biennale. Awards and nominations include the Prix Pictet (2013, 2015); Prudential Eye Awards (2015, finalist for Best Emerging Artist in Asia Using Photography); and Sovereign Asian Art Prize (2015, finalist). His works are included in the collections of the Singapore Art Museum (Singapore) and Mainland Art Fund (Australia).
