9 Mar 2017

“The Honolulu Biennial Foundation (HBF) has announced the artist lineup for the inaugural edition of the Honolulu Biennial in 2017 from March 8 to May 8. Entitled “Middle of Now | Here,” Honolulu Biennial 2017 (HB2017) will showcase the work of more than 30 artists from Hawaiʻi, the Pacific Islands, Asia, North America, Australia, and New Zealand.

The participating artists were selected by Curatorial Director Fumio Nanjo, Director of Tokyo’s Mori Art Museum, and Curator Ngahiraka Mason, former Curator of Indigenous Art, Maori Art at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki.”

Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan’s work, Crossings: Project Another Country is made of used boats and domestic objects, reflecting on the Aquilizans’ connection to Filipino immigrants who came to Hawai’i to work on the cane fields on Maui.
