Born in Tehran, Iran, where she continues to live and work, Shadi Ghadirian (b. 1974) has established herself as one of the leading photographers from the Middle East, creating powerful images that explore the duality, complexities and contradictions of daily life in the region.
Aside from solo and group shows worldwide, Ghadirian’s works have been shown in leading museums and institutions such as Victoria and Albert Museum (UK), British Museum (UK), MFA Boston (USA), Du Quai Branly Museum (France), Konstmuseum Gutenberg (Sweden), and The Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (Iran). She also participates in numerous fairs and biennales, including the Photo Biennale of Moscow (2004). Public collections that collect her work include the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Smithsonian Museum in the USA; Victoria and Albert Museum, Saatchi Gallery and British Museum in the UK; the Devi Art Foundation (India); Musee des Arts Contemporains (France) and Museum Modern Kunst Sitftung Ludwig (Austria).
