Tatong Torres (b. 1979, Philippines) is known for his paintings that depict a fantastic, alternate world that is at once compelling and horrifying. He presents everyday scenes in strange contexts, occupied by warped and grotesque figures that are visibly inspired by the horror genre and B class cinema. Since 2010, he has been fascinated by technology; exploring the possibilities it has on how realities can be produced, such as in the virtual world Second Life. He started producing artworks in the “Yarn Factory Art Projects”, a virtual building that he designed, complete with exhibitions featuring snapshots of new avatars and virtual assemblages.
Torres has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in the Philippines, Japan, Singapore and Germany, and in 2011, he was nominated for the Ateneo Art Awards (Philippines) for “Yarn Factory Art Projects”.
